Current Issue #15
I. Summary
Who: People of Mississippi
What: The river flooded to an almost record breaking level.
When: May 7, 2011
Where: Around the Mississippi River
Why: Because it rained a lot and caused the river to flood past the flood stages.
II. Reflection
Text to Self:
This relates to me in the way that I have seen flooding in Georgia and I can sort of relate with the people around the Mississippi River. They have lost their homes to a flood that is continuing to rise in water level. The Coast Guard is working hard to help people that have been caught in the flood and many people are staying in flood shelters. I hope that the water will recede and that people's lives will be able to go back to normal.
Text to Text:
This relates to something I read about the a record flood that the Mississippi River had and with the flood now almost breaking that record. The river is a few feet from matching the record of the previous flood. If the river continues to flood then more people's homes and businesses will be flooded. I hope that everyone around the Mississippi River will be able to take back their lives after the flood.
Text to World:
This relates to the rest of the world in the way that if we are able to handle the flood without losing a single person then we will be seen in a better way by other countries. They will see that we have the capability to protect our people from natural disasters. This will also allow us to be better prepared for other natural disasters that may occur. This will cause the US to be more prepared in the future.

Issue #14
Osama Bin Laden's Death
I. Summary
Who: Osama Bin Laden
What: He was killed by the U.S. military.
When: May 1, 2011
Where: Pakistan
Why: He is a wanted terrorist and is the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks.
Text to Self:
This relates to me in the way that I also wanted Bin Laden dead just like most of the U.S. The military did a good job at finally finding Osama Bin Laden and killing him before he could do anything else to the U.S. I would want to see the video of them storming in and killing Bin Laden because I want to see that justice was served. I am happy that we have taken out a great enemy of the U.S. and the leader of Al Qaeda.
Text to Text:
This relates to something I read about Sadam Hussein in which the U.S. took him out of power and had him tried by his own people. Bin Laden deserved to die in that compound and not be able to attack the U.S. ever again. Hussein was corrupt and needed to be taken out of power so he could not hurt anymore people. Both Bin Laden and Hussein were evil people and did not care about killing thousands of people.
Text to World:
This relates to the rest of the world in the way that the world has gotten rid of a major threat and it is safer now that Bin Laden is dead. We have been able to stop Al Qaeda for a little while by killing their lead Osama Bin Laden. However we will need to be prepared to put a stop to Al Qaeda so that they can never attack the U.S. or any other countries. The world is a much better place with the terrorist, Osama Bin Laden, dead.

Event #13
Tuscaloosa Tornadoes
I. Summary
Who: People of Alabama
What: Tornadoes destroyed much of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
When: 28 April 2011
Where: Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Why: A massive storm system blew through the states.
II. Reflection
Text to Self:
This relates to me in the way that I have been through tornadoes before and know what it is like to have one near you. I remember when I lived at my old house a tornado was close by and we had to hide in the interior of our house because we did not have a basement. Luckily the tornado missed us because otherwise we might of been hurt. Many people in Alabama are feeling the same way because either the tornadoes missed them or they took a direct hit from them.
Text to Text:
This relates to something I read about huge tornadoes that occured in the past in which they talked about some of the most devastating tornadoes ever. Tuscaloosa, Alabama has experienced a tornado of great destruction and could continue to be hit by more tornadoes in the following weeks. Tornadoes cause destruction and can not be stopped or prevented, they will destroy everything in their path. Throughout history tornadoes have been a natural disaster that killed people and destroyed homes.
Text to World:
This could affect the rest of the world in the way that the storm system that moved through the U.S. could be moving toward Europe. Europe may also experience tornadoes and other effects of the storms. This storm system may also just disappear on its way to Europe and not cause them any damage at all. Right now the world is having a lot of storms, we just need to be able to withstand them and hopefully the storms will stop sooner or later.

Current Issues #11 I.Budget Proposal
I. Summary
Who: President Obama
What: They are deciding on the 2012 budget.
When: April 13, 2011
Where: Washington D.C.
Why: Because they are at a stand still on deciding where funding goes.
II. Reflection
Text to Self:
This relates to me in the way that I have also had to decide how I would spend my money. I had decide what I would buy and if I would have any money left after getting what I wanted to buy. Obama is having to do the same thing but with billions of dollars. We need to make a budget that will be able to get us out of the recession and clear away our debt.
Text to Text:
This relates to something I read about the Great Depression in which FDR used the budget to create services that helped the people. Obama is trying to conserve money while also helping the American people if they are in financial trouble. Medicare is one of the big debates on the budget because it costs so much money. If we can figure out how to have the budget be as helpful as possible then we will be able to get out of the recession.
Text to World:
This affects the rest of the world in the way that depending on the budget we may or may not buy as many things from other countries. If the budget is low then we will buy less products from other countries and we will have less money to spend on government programs. We may also increase the amount of our exports and decrease our imports to save and make more money. The budget may allow us get out of the recession and be able to become a much better nation.
