Gardena High School Shooting
Who: Gardena High School students
What: Two students were shot when a gun discharged inside another student's backpack.
When: January 18, 2011
Where: Gardena High School
Why: The student brought a gun to school for protection and when he reached into his bag the gun went off.
II. Reflection
Text to Self:
This article relates to me in the way that I feel that people should allowed to have guns for protection but not bring them to school. I feel that if there was some sort of danger that I should be able to have a gun to protect myself. I believe that the student was wrong for bringing a gun to school but right for wanting something to protect himself from the gangs in his area. Whether or not you should have a gun and use it depends on the situation and is not to be taken lightly.

This relates to the booklet that I read to get my hunter safety card because it talks about gun safety and laws. He should not have brought the gun to school at all but to have the gun with the safety off was the biggest mistake. The student is lucky that no one died from his stupidity and he should not have run after the shot was fired. As soon as he started running he was only making things worse for himself. People should follow the laws about guns and be competent enough to handle them safely.

This relates to the rest of the world in which other shootings are occuring around the globe that are not accidents and cause many casualties. People are going into public buildings and opening fire on innocent people just going about their day. In the end it causes nothing but pain and sadness with a few people responsible and many angry relatives and friends. Police and security should be able to stop these shootings but sometimes they miss the one person that will cause all this pain and sadness.
